DUNLEVY

Once I had many family links established, I began looking for the "hard to find" links. Unfortunately, most of the "deadends" were associated with the wife. Either there was no name or it was just the first name with absolutely no indication of her family. However, in an attempt to find additional information, I went to both the genealogy.genforum and roots-L rootsweb sites and searched for information that had had been posted for the husband. [If the wife's surname were known, I had already gone to her surname sites, and looked for an entry that had her husband's surname.] Occasionally, I would find somebody who was working on the same family and had posted additional information. At times I determined the authors name/email and wrote directly to the author. Occasionally, new insights were provided. Unfortunately, all too often I never receive a response to my query. However, the result of one successful probe was to identify the " Keziah Miller" who married Anthony Dunlavy. I found a FHC microfilm with handwritten pages in biographical format describing the Dunlavy and Miller families. Keziah Miller was the second wife (m ca 1783) of a Capt John Miller who came from the east and lived in Virginia. (There is a Capt John Miller (39161856) identified in the Virginia army during the Revolutionary War, but there is no specific information regarding him other than to identify the commanding officer, Col R Maj Hunt.) After the death of John Miller in Ohio (ca 1795), Keziah married Anthony Dunlavy (ca 1795). The Dunlavy families were Hugenots who lived in France during the reign of King Louis XIV. They first went to Ireland and then emigrated to America, New Jersey and then to Virginia and Kentucky. Anthony, as a result of the influence of his 2 brothers, one a shaker minister, left Keziah and lived in Shakertown, KY. The handwritten notes mention a daughter, Rachael Dunlavy who married a Steven Porter. These notes discuss Carol's g, gg and ggg-grand parents. Keziah's surname was something like Garold, Garrill. I have identified a number of possible names, but have not made a guess as to her family. The 1790 VA census shows an Elizabeth Garrill (1783) with 5 whites. The notes stated that Keziah's mom OK'ed the Captain for marriage and that there was a sister.
